Iowa Chatbot Safety Act (SF 2417)

In force since 1 July 2026, which makes it the most urgent of the 2026 state chatbot laws. Carries a customer-service carve-out that decides whether a support bot is in scope, and requires a three-hourly AI reminder for every user, not just minors.

Getting ready

Iowa SF 2417 is enforced by Iowa Attorney General. Its obligations are already live, so a gap is a present exposure rather than a future one. In practice that means knowing which of your AI systems fall in scope in consumer services and generative AI, holding assessments that speak to transparency, safety & robustness and consumer protection, and being able to produce that evidence on request.
