Obligations for Annex III high-risk systems take effect, Member State penalty rules apply, and the Commission's powers to fine providers of general-purpose AI models become enforceable.
EU AI Act — high-risk rules for regulated products
High-risk obligations extend to AI that is a safety component of products already covered by EU harmonisation law (Annex I). GPAI models placed on the market before 2 Aug 2025 must be brought into compliance by this date.
EU AI Act — large-scale EU IT systems brought into scope
High-risk AI systems that are components of the large-scale IT systems listed in Annex X, placed on the market before 2 Aug 2027, must be brought into compliance.
Colorado AI Act (SB 24-205) takes effect
First US comprehensive AI law: duty of reasonable care for developers and deployers of high-risk AI to prevent algorithmic discrimination, with disclosure and impact-assessment duties.
Texas Responsible AI Governance Act (TRAIGA) in force
Prohibits AI used for intentional discrimination, manipulation and certain biometric uses; creates a state AI regulatory sandbox and an AI council.
NYC Local Law 144 — bias audits enforced
Employers using automated employment decision tools must commission an annual independent bias audit and publish the results before use.
